Redmagic launched its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 equipped gaming smartphone, the Redmagic 8 Pro, in China during late 2022. The device has recently made its debut for the global market, with some changes in specifications and even branding. In regards to the latter, variants of the phone are marketed internationally as Matte and Void, instead of Pro and Pro+.

It’s also worth noting that each version features their own unique designs, with the Matte variant featuring a finish that suits its namesake, while the Void comes with a glass + matte rear panel. While both devices feature RGB light strips on their backs, unique to the latter model is the visible RGB illuminated cooling fan.

Regardless of variant, the brand‘s latest flagship series come with a flat 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 2480 x 1116 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 960 Hz touch sampling rate, and a second-generation under display 16 MP camera. In addition to having physical buttons on both sides, situated on the right side of its surrounding frame are two capacitive shoulder triggers with 520 Hz touch sampling rate. Besides that, the duo also features stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and dual X-axis linear motors.

Internally, both the Matte and Void versions are equipped with the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is kept cool by Redmagic’s built-in ICE 11 system. As for configurations, the former variant features 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB UFS 4.0 storage, while the latter comes with a higher memory count of 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. Meanwhile, powering the two is the same 6,000 mAh battery with 65 W fast charging capability.

Imaging-wise, the phones come with a triple camera setup that’s championed by a 50 MP Samsung GN5 sensor, along with an 8 MP ultra wide and a 2 MP macro. This setup enables for video recordings capabilities of up to 8K resolution at 30 fps, 4K at 60 fps, and 1080p at 240 fps.

The new Redmagic 8 Pro duo is set to retail in the US from 2 February 2023 onwards at US$ 650 (~RM 2,811) for the Matte edition, and US$ 800 (~RM 3,460) for the high-end Void model. Interestingly, GSMArena reports that Malaysia is included in the list of Asia Pacific countries that’s scheduled to receive the phone in the near future. When asked, a local representative of Redmagic told us that the brand’s flagship series is expected to arrive locally by either late February or early March, but their Malaysian pricing is still kept under wraps for now.
