Grab To Enforce Verification Via Selfie Requirement To GrabExpress Service

Grab announced that it will enforce its verification via selfie (aka passenger selfie) safety measure to its GrabExpress courier service in the near future. The move came as a response to an increase in the usage of their parcel delivery service to transport illegal and dangerous items, which has placed its delivery partners at risk of being apprehended at roadblocks.

The company stated that it will be working with authorities in order to thwart any form of illegal activity done on the platform, while at the same time ensuring the safety of their ecosystem, partners and users during the MCO period.

GrabExpress customers will need to adhere to the verification via selfie requirement when placing a delivery request via the app. This safety measure will help the company to trace back the users who are responsible for the transportation of illegal items, as well as to discourage these individuals from committing these crimes.

Like its e-hailing service, GrabExpress delivery partners are given full consent to reject any deliveries if the customer refuses to provide their photos for verification or if their credentials does not match with the selfie that was provided.

Grab will also require users to declare all of their items within the app before they are picked up by partners for delivery. This would equip runners with knowledge of the parcel’s contents should they be stopped at police roadblocks.

Additionally, the company will suspend all cash payments in favour of adopting cashless approaches. Grab believes that this would deter fraudulent accounts and reduce the risk of any illegal activity that could potentially affect and hurt its delivery partners.

The company did not mention when these new GrabExpress safety initiatives will be implemented.
