I have run one going on 5 yrs. They are an extremely tough car. I would assume that you are running in a pure stock type class... The biggest drawback is the weight. The Mirada, Aspen platform is some lighter. My experience is the Aspen type front end works well on tacky track. On a more dry or a all out dry track the Cordoba is absolutely unbeatable! Mine dives bad on tack and it can be a handfull but if you play with wheel offsets it gets better. My vote is yes, the Cordoba with a 360 is a great racecar! ps. I did run a big block and had handling problems. On a 1/2 mile I think it would work ok but on the bull ring it makes the front end too heavy. However, for a racer on a budget a big block works well because they are TOUGH!!!!!!!

One of the loudest stock type cars(purestock) I have ever heard was a cardoba with headers and a 360.

to answer a prevous question...we run the alternator. I think the loss of hp is well worth not having to charge the battery and deal with low voltage issues.

now...a new question!

"What kind of carburators are you'all running?"

We ran a thurmoquad last year due to rules and had decent luck with it. This year I am running a holley 660 centersquirter because I know much more about them and our tec is not checking carbs. our engine is 360ci, 9.5/1, port matched, mopar roller cam, mopar dual plane manifold, stock 360 truck exhaust w/ 2-1/2" pipes.

we run one but i'm thinking about dropping it. put the car on the scales for the first time last night. it was terrible:

left 52.4%
rear 47.1%
cross 55.0%
251 pounds of left rear bite
overall weight 3590 w/ driver

did a ton of work which unfortunately included adding about 175 lbs. and ended up with:
left 52.6%
rear 51.0%
cross 50.4%
113 pounds of left rear bite
overall weight 3755 w/ driver

i'm hoping these numbers will work. it's 1/2 mile medium bank with somewhat sweeping turns.

we have to have 3300 w/ driver after race. so now i've got to figure out where to lose some weight.

any weight watchers tips for the mirada?

If you can run a 4412 I think I would...
See my post on Moparchat Finally. But the jist of it is get the weight off the front. All you can. You should be able to get 200 pounds off the car and I'd bet a lot of it can come off the front. If you can't find aluminum bumpers you can gut to a bare shell front and back. I saved a pile of weight this way on the Cordoba.

We are running a stock motor and suspension. We've taken a lot of weight off of the car, though. We are running a two barrel right now, as we don't have a good four barrel to put on it right now. Either could be considered "stock". Strangely, the car oversteers, while we expected it to understeer with all the weight in the back. Biggest problem is forward bite.

I run a super stock drag leaf, it has more leafs in the front to keep the rear end from wrapping up. That helped my foreward bite a ton.

I run a stock 2 bbl holley. I have run holley 4bbls a few years ago but I've had better luck with the 2 bbl. However, a well tuned Thermoquad might work. I've never had the paitence....

I have them on both sides. We left the old top leaf in, removed the top leaf out of the SS springs and lined them up with the hole on the old spring.

One other thing, we dialed in the pinion angle when we put the springs in that helped quite a bit.

Ran tonite in Greenbush, ran ok in heat but needed more pull, jetted up 2 sizes, re-timed it and it pulled well in the feature (started 7th row) just was getting going well and it started cutting out! I think it was vapor locking. 2Ez is in need of an engine otherwise he's ready too.

Most likely your carb. If you 2brl not already a center hung float I would change it over. our side hung floats are really loading up the moter with gas. Get a longer vent tube or put an extention on it. Make shure that your float valve is the plastic/rubber one and not the steel one. Without seeing your carb I can't be very spacific.

We ran last saturday and had carb floding and low spark isues. We have got all that fixed and are racing again on this saturday.

"QUESTION:" Has anyone raced on new clay? Our track has brought in 56 truck loads of new clay, and I was wondering if this will make the track totaly different or should it be close to the same.

currently running the 8 3/4 with a 5.57 gear mated with the 727 tranny. that's on a half mile. everybody else on the track runs the ford 9 inch. i don't think we're too far off, but we're planning on going to a 9 inch for next season. next year, we're planning on running two tracks - the 1/2 and then a 3/8. right now we're a little low on gear at the 1/2 (most guys run 5.67 to 6.00). we'll definitely need the ability to change to a bigger gear for the 3/8 track.

nope. run in 3rd once i get up to speed. since i'm still learning to drive, i'm not sure how many rpm's i'll need to be competitive on the 1/2 mile track, but it'll probably be somewhere around 6200-6500. i'm thinking about running in 2nd on the 3/8, but that might be a bit much. it'd be around 7.90 final ratio.

I run a 360 with a 727, I have had good luck with the 727. I run big quarters or small 3/8 banked tracks. I typically run 6000 rpm.

how's everybody's season going?

so far i'm happy with my progress trying to learn how to drive. i've been getting a lot faster every week.

i'm starting wonder if i'm making a big mistake keeping the 8 3/4 inch rear end. i'm really getting outpulled on starts/restarts.

anyways...hope everyone's seasons are going well!

of course the day I asked how everybody's season was going, mine went south in a hurry. after getting more comfortable in the car, i wrecked it pretty badly.

i was going almost full bore in a turn and hit a stopped car square in the middle of the radiator. we broke about everything i thought possible. jammed the tranny cooler half way through the radiator. in fact, i shattered the timing chain cover and broke two teeth off the cam gear. shoved the motor back about two inches nicely bending the motor mounts and shearing one of the tranny mid mounts.

the only good thing about it was that it didn't bend the front stub. we had been meaning to make some solid motor mounts, so i guess now is a good time to do it.

of course this happened when i'm too busy at work to devote a lot of time to the car. i'm hoping to get it back out for a few more races this season.

Remove the rubber k- frame isolators from the blots that bolt them on, use some kind of washer or metal tube to get the height real close to the height of those rubber biscuts. And definately tie the front and rear sub frames together and weld the cage to it.

I would sugest (if oyur alowed) running front bars to the frame rails. otherwise your car might end up looking like ours.
