On a three link rear suspension , is it acceptable practice to raise the chassis mounting point of the bar (left side ) without lengthening the bar ? I realize that will move the rear to the left in effect tightening up the car , but that is what we want to do for a dryslick track right ?

always readjustthe bar, you want to change one thing at a time, by moving the rearend over also, you are making more than just the one change, also if your not carefull your car might bind up, or even dog walk.

It depends on the movement and amount of movement. Just think NASCAR has a jack bolt on it. If you are loose and move it up to tighten the car you are moving the rear to the left which will also tighten the car. and visa versa.
I would not move it more than 1 inch either way without adjusting it though.

When we are in a hurry thats what we'll do, but it's best to change the length if you move it more than an inch.

XC Man- I agree with the other posts that it's best to re-adjust the bar lenght when making changes, but sometimes you don't have the time, or help. I have a suggestion to help make the adjustments more quickly. If you make small blocks to fit between the the tube on the rearend housing and the under-slung frame rail (at ride height), you can slip these in and jack up the car. Then make your height adjustment on the panhard/j-bar, and re-adjust the length of the bar to fit the new chassis position mount. This is a quick and easy way to make these adjusts and keep everything square.

I think you should always adjust the bar length to keep your side-to-side the same. You are better to adjust with wheel offset if that is the effect you desire.

Spent some time in the shop today , here is what I came up with . At rear ride height when I raise the bar 1-1/4 inches it moves the rear-end just under an 1/8 " to the left .

So from a static setting you can go up or down 2 inches and it is under 1/2 inch of rearend movement.

How much it moves will also depend on how long the bar is and how much angle is in it at ride height.
