I was wanting to mount my front shocks on my metric modified in a cantilever fashion. I'm tired of replacing shocks from crashes. Also can't get the camber I want because shock is in the way.

How do you determine the proper angles?

Does the amount of shock travel experienced when mounted vertically to the lower control arm need to be the same when mounted in a cantilever position.

Have any of you guys ran your shocks this way before? Any opinions?

I have looked for some cantilever design theory on the net but haven't found a lot. If anyone knows some good books let me know.

I had the same problem a couple years ago, I went to the small body shocks and still was tearing them up. I found a local guy that had worked for some Indy car teams and is building and racing scca right now. We looked it over and did it. It worked great, had a big crash at the end of the season that took out both sides of the suspension but only bent a heim on the shocks, plus it seemed to free up the front end. It gets pretty confusing without drawing it out or something. I still have the car trying to sell it but I could get you some pictures of what we came up with. My new car is conventional shocks but wish it was cantilever. Let me know if you want hands on info.

Racer17j- I checked out there design on the net. I don't run one of their cars, do you think they'd still be willing to give me some advice? Any certain person I should talk to?

talk to ego racing, he has ran them.
and is pretty knowledgeable with them.

White lighting racing runs them on his cars and we have them on our car. They are out of Ark. Look up on the net n2speed. I don't have a scanner or I would send you pictures. You dont bend shocks but you do bend the actuators, but I have seen people build their own.

wanyne is real good about helping guys out. he's kinda one of those if i help thois guy out he might buy a set of my a frames or maybe even a chassis in the future

thanks for the help guys. I think its going to rain us out again this weekend so maybe I'll have some time to get this cantilever deal going.

Sorry I could only get one picture to load,
The first upper control arms used straight tubing these were the second version. I took out the cross support on the crossmember and put the lower shock mounts there. I put the cross supprt forward between the frame horn supports. Our old track had cement walls inside and out with no run off, this car was beefed up to take slight brushes with the wall. The guy that helped me told me to try to keep the shock force at 90* or as close as you can or you will sacrfice shock affect. any mor quetions let me know.
