Just got a set of 461 heads that have been setting up a while but I got them cheap and next step is to take them to the machine shop. I have noticed one thing that has meen concerned already. Between the two center cylinders on the bottom surface that would lay on the block ther is what apears to be a very small gap cut looks like it was made there or put there but I dont now why or what this is can anyone tell me or do I have a set or trashed heads from the begging. Looks kinda like a notch. I have not yet confirmed if its on both or just the one I have in front of me right now.

That's what happens when you blow a head gasket and just keep going..it can be welded and fixed easily, just have it welded and surfaced.

what they are telling you is correct, this is a common problem, but before you pay to get it welded, have them checked for other cracks. If they are crack free, get the "fire slot" welded, have them surfaced, and never look back.
