Ok Second lap of heat lost power steering and rubbed the wall started seeing sparks fly from under the hood every half a lap temp went up to 210 and oil pressure at 50 went the last 6 laps to finish on a 3/8ís track.

When I got into the pits and started cooling down the engine I noticed the water pump, pulley and fan were not connected to the engine any more. It was lodged in my radiator. When I felt the valve covers they were not to hot and with the water it came down to 190 fast.

Well got her back together for the next night and she ran great but noticed that the exhaust is popping like I have glass packs on or some thing. What could have caused the water pump to come off? And should I look for any other problems related to this happing?

The bolts backed out but one of them broke deep but still had about a 1/4 inch of thread to bolt to with a lock washer.

It seems the engine is running better like it does not get as hot with the new fan and only half a shroud and new radiator.

The only thing I noticed was the popping and back fire when I let off the gas. The oil was still pretty clear and the water did not have oil in.

ususally the popping is the motor loading up and burning in the header (or manifold)
not anything to do with the waterpump falling off

do you use any thread sealer on the water pump bolts
if not then you should the same as you do with your head bolts
liquid teflon sealer works the best
