are you setting them hot or cold?

With hyd it should not matter if you set them hot or cold b/c of the amount of preload your putting on the lifters. The lifters that came with your cam could be anti pumps if its a street cam, that would be your problem. My buddy installed a comp 4x4 cam kit and the same thing happened. I changed his lifters to standard comp lifters and it fixed the problem.

Was your engine build for solid lifters? If it was it has oil restrictors to the top end and your hydraulics are starving for oil.

Funny you ask. The engine builder finally convinced me to run these modified (enlarged) restricters in the back of the block. He drills them out to restrict less oil to the top, but keeps more oil on the bottom end. The guy is very good and successful, so I went with it even though my previous beliefs were "Never, ever use restrictors with stock-style rockers". I've got to tell you that there seems to be plenty of oil puddled up in the rocker area of the head, and I don't see any significant blueing on the steel rockers either. What can I do?
