We are looking to build a light weight rotating assembly for a 355 sbc. This engine will have under 400hp. What crank or cranks should we be looking into? How light do they make these cranks? I see a lot of them around the 50 pound range. But I know they get lighter yet. What else besides rods and pistons should we be looking at to cut the weight?

Light crank, rods, pistons, light flywheel, light harmonic balancer, light transmission components (i.e. Bert/brinn or in/out box), light driveshaft (alum or carbon fiber), light U-joints, lightened ring gear in the back.

That's all the driveline components that you can lighten up.... Scat makes some mid-weight cranks in the low 40-42lb range that are decently priced ($700 or so), after that they start going up in price the more weight you go down... Look at lightweight rods, and lightweight flat-top pistons with small chamber heads.
