the electrical connection that you are refering to on an AOD Ford, is only a small sending unit type switch on the left side above the shifter lever. It is only there for neutral saftey and backup lites. the trans itself, is fully manually operated and needs no electricity to work. it does however need to have the TV cable or linkage and this needs to be properly calibrated.

Ford 5 is right on if you don't have the tv set up right you will fry the tranny.

Are you sure that you didn't get an AOD-E trans - it's electronically controlled and different from the AOD.

thanks guys for the help but i found out today that it is not a AOD in the truck i got but a C6
