Do you use special Racing Oil? or do you just use regular car oil?

I run a Modified with a 388, and use Valvoline racing 50 in mine, but I know you will hear many different preferences with this thread.

Have ran regular oil and racing oil, both Valvoline. The racing oil held better oil pressure after the race and wasn't near as dirty afterwards. I figured whatever I saved on regular oil I would lose in more frequent changes so I just stayed with racing oil. Not to mention I haven't lost an engine since 1989. I just can't bring myself to change over to anything else.

We're using regular oil 20W-50 with Lucas oil stabilizer and keep really good pressure throught the night of racing. We change oil and filters every (2) weekends and no problems to date. Oil looks good when drained and could probably go another weekend or so.

NJantz,

How often do you change your oil? What brand of filter do you use.

When you say 20% Lucas Additive, do you mean 20% of the bottle of Lucas per each oil change, or of the 8 or 9 quarts it takes to fill the pan? If you only add 20% of the bottle, can you please explain why? Is it because it is so thick?

Thanks!

dluna,

i think what he meant was 20% of the crankcase volume. which on an 8qt pan would be about a quart and a half.

We run Royal Purple 41 in ours with Wix racing filters. Change filters every other night and entire oil 6 nights. Ran Mobil1 15w50 before and had good results with it as well.

filter is only 10$ and the oil is only 2.88 a quart!!

oil looks as clean as it did when i put it in 3 weeks ago!!!
