Author Topic:   piston& chamber burn pattern

I have a 377 with 12/5 comp two barrel carb double hump heads stock manifolds ran it six nights seemed lazy and flat for power gain on the straights . I have a howards cam in it a solid with a 106 center i installed it at a 102 per the companys advice . I tore it down to change cams and found that it had wiped the cam bearings out .So i am rebuilding it. The pistons and chambers all seem to have a lot of carbon pattern more so around the exhaust valve area .Is caused by my valve timing being to late and the piston is drawing exhaust back in to the chamber? Any ideas THANKS
