i've been having some trouble with my water temp gauge. i run the autometer mechanical ultralight gauges. my problem is that it gets up to temp fine but the gauge won't come down when the car is cooling off. i hafta tap the gauge and then it will come down a little. even after sitting for 3 days the lowest it will go is 170! i got a brand new gauge with sender and installed it...same exact problem! i have also tried 2 different motors with the same results. anybody got any ideas??

thanks

my autometer mechanical guage does the same thing. i believe it is caused by dirt getting into it somewhere. mine is still accurate, but once in a while the needle will stick.

I have had quite a few problems with auto meter also. Sticking like you and also I broke several of the mechanincal water temp gauges capilary tube right at the block end, even after drilling out the fitting that comes with them.

I am now trying a electric water temp gauge. It seems to work really well. and I like it because I put a water neck on with a sender in it for the light, and the gauge, and used a trailer connector so I can unplug both at the same time.
