what is the proper procedure in breaking in a new camshaft?

the reason I'm asking, is a fellow racer did there's improperly and wore the lobes almost clean off, tryin to learn from there mistakes (costs less)

If you run dual springs, remove the inner valve springs and fire it up for 20-30 mins (shoot for 30) and vary the rpm a little, keep it in the 2-2500 range. Many also swap to low ratio (1.2 or 1.3) rockers to break in along with removing the inner spring. After that, turn it off, put the inners back in and your correct rockers and it's ready to go. Seems like a lot of work but it's worth it to save a cam.
