A few years back I was reading an article in a magazine that did a test comparison of a stock HEI, MSD HEI, and a complete MSD system with a 6A box. The MSD HEI was far better than the stock HEI above 4000rpm, and only slightly worse than the complete MSD system. The article showed charts showing spark energy, voltage, etc. for each and they did dyno tests with one engine to prove the findings. I don't remember the exact numbers but I use the MSD HEI Pro-Billet for the simplicity of the HEI. Most likely the DUI is just as good of a piece.

also, with the msd system, and since you don't run an alternator, you might want to see about using a Volt Master system. it converts your battery from 12 volt to 16 volt, MSD looses spark from 6-7000rpm's. not alot, but noticable. the volt master sends 16volts constantly.

a full msd setup is the way to go.

MSD systems are designed to produce spark at a 10volt supply source and since the output power is regulated, there really isn't any performance gain from using a 16volt battery. The only gain you get is having greater electrical storage with the 16volt.
