What is the best crank? cast, steel, or forged? I've heard different things from different people. cast will flex. when forged won't. etc. What are your opinions?

my advise to you is, don't skimp on the bottom end. buy decent parts, and they will last you awhile, as long as you take care of the motor. just don't assume it is alright week after week, without checking valve train, oil, filter, etc...

good luck.

The reason I'm asking i had a 360. I paid another guy to build it. It had forged pop-up pistons, good H-beam rods, and a stock cast crank that had been worked over. i blew it up 2 weeks ago. the crank broke, ripped the rod journal out of the crank, and tore up everything else in the process.
I thought about building anouther motor but using a steel crank, but have heard that may not be the best thing to use. also i change oil, inspect, set rockers, everything every race no matter what. It's good insurance!!

Go with 13's advice but remember no matter how good the parts theres an x factor and sometimes it just happens I've built motors that last for a season refresh them all is well then bam I built one with parts from three diff motors it ran for 3 seasons that I know of you just do yoiu're best and hopethat's good enough
