When I pull into the pits after a race and shut the car off, the engine backfires, it has done it on my main engine and my spare, so I'm assuming its in the carburation(rochester 2 barrel), what can I do to fix this, and am I running a risk of damaging anything by leaving it?

Are you using racing fuel or pump gas it can make a difference. Try the racing fuel if you can.

I had that happen once, and it back fired through the carb. We did not know it, and someone ran up to us saying our car was on fire. We ran over there, and the air filter had caught on fire, luckily someone saw it and got the filter off before anything else happened. We had bad power valves, and too much jetting.
