Is there an advantage to run an MSD vs HEI. Are there any power improvements using either one????

Yes there is quite an advantage to running an MSD, or similar ignition system. There is no scenario where a HEI can produce more power than a MSD system. One step further would be to use a crank trigger system, also made by MSD. In every test that we have ever done, a crank trigger is worth a minimum of 10hp over a standard MSD box and distributor combo. Ignition systems are often overlooked as an area that can produce power. This is much the same as how exhaust systems were overlooked in the past as an area to produce "free" power.

The real advantage is the rev limiter from the msd. Otherwise, the hei, if it has good parts in it, is fine. Hei is what is leading the USMTS national points right now. At least that is what was in the car this last weekend when it won 2 shows. nuff said.

Are you sure that it was an entire hei setup or just the hei distributor used as a trigger for MSD etc.
