the "h" bearing is the best. i've seen melling brand bearings and they're supposedly the same as the old line of vandervell bearings. that should make them an "intermediate" bearing......better than the standard clevite 77, but not quite as good as the racing "h" bearing.

I've had good luck with the standard bearing in street performance motors in the past. They're standard bearing lived where Clevite's standard bearing failed. When I worked in the engine shop, we used there HP series bearing quite a bit. At the time, they were one of the few that made .020" HP bearings for anything other than a SBC. No problems.

I just installed a set of King HP rod & mains in my 355. Although it only sees 6000-6500 rpm, but we'll see how they look at the end of the year. If they survive as well as the Federal Mogul HP bearings I've used for the past 3 1/2 years, I'll be switching to Kings. I can get them about $10 less than Federal or Clevite for both rods and mains. Not much, but if they work just as well that's $20 to be spent on something else. Like a set of spares.
