Is this the one for a stock clutch? If so you may need to shim it up closer to the fingers, you only need a few thousands clearance between the bearing and the fingers on the pressure plate. They usually come with some cone-shaped spacers when new, they go between the release bearing and the front bearing retainer on the trans.

we had one that would only engage if the pedal was pressed to the floor also make sure that you did not over extend it and cut one of the rubber O rings, did that a few times and it dosen' so much cause a leak as it allows air to come in. the pedal should be very very firm.
