Make sure the oil filter adapter is bolted tight to the block. Is the bypass plugged?

Sometimes, and I was guilty of this myself once, you take an oil filter off, but the old gasket stays stuck to the engine. Then, when you put the new one on, you have 2 gaskets, which is where you'll get the leak. It may hold for a bit, but when it lets go, it really lets go. Check to make sure you don't have an old gasket stuck to the block.
