I bought a set of DART PRO1 alum. heads about April of 2002 and have ran them about 50 nights. I had what my engine builder said was a blown head gasket last fall with 5 nights to go in my season, so popped a gasket on and ran the last 5 nights with no problem. Now, this year 5 nights into the season blew another head gasket, same head, had a valve job over the winter, and now the machine shop and the engine assembly man find a crak in the chamber on the intake side...who f'ed up?

Or just bad castings?

More than likely the crack is a result of blown head gaskets, or from the problem that is causing your blown head gasket's. I've only ever seen the Pro-1's crack if they are severely over heated. Not saying that you don't have a "one-off" bad casting, but I've never personally seen a bad Pro-1 head that just arbitrarily cracked for no reason.

the machine shop says that it must have cracked due to a bad casting, or because the engine got too hot when the gasket went. If I bought these bare for the machine shop to build up as they saw fit why would the valve seats be an "oddball" size? And that it would be a couple days to get the correct size one in, hmmmmm....they are off the shelf stock as far as I know...Did I not get a kiss with these????
