Will not enough timing cause a motor to heat up fast at idle? I mean like 24 to 26 at idle and 36 at full using the advance?

I don't think so. Are you running reduction pulleys? If so, at idle, they are not moving much water through the motor. If the problem does not exist at speed, and if you don't have a reason to idle too long, it may not even be a problem.
