Engine must pull 12 inches of vacuum idleing at 1,000 rpm to pass tech.

Right now I'm pulling 11 inches.

The cam I use says to set the valve lash at .023" HOT.

Do you think If I backed off the lash to .024" or .025", I might get that extra inch?

Do they always check your vacuum at the same place . Base of the carb or on the intake?

They always check it at the carb base.

hooking the vacuum advance up will get you plenty, but i wouldn't race it that way.Maybe a vacuum switch under the dash?

Rico8 has a very good idea. Plumb you in some vaccuum storage somewhere. Rico8 could explain the vaccuum switch underthedash theory?

Well alot of the luxury cars have all sorts of switches for vacuum, temp activated, mechanical, and the newer electrical type that should be easy to do,except they are going to see the switch betwen the carb/port and the dist.

heres a little trick that works get a steel plug that will fit in the intake vacume port, take the plug and drill a hole in the center to where a 1/4 inch brake tube will fit in the hole now cut the tube about 2 inches long on one end of the tube cut it at a 45 slide the 45 end of the brake tube in the plug extending it about 1 inch out the bottom of the plug now on the top of the plug you will wont to carfully weld the tube to the plug so you wont have any vac leaks when you have that screw the plug in the intake do all the drilling and welding off the motor.. what you have just made is a small evac tube works just like a header evac system you will wont to plug all other vacume ports that way the tech wil have to take the vac reading from the intake make it look good and oem looking have a good one :-)
