The fan could have been out of balance. What kind of water pump was it?

I had that happen once on a year old cheapo alum water pump, i also was trying a 4" spacer...no more....only Stewart pumps and no spacers longer than 2 1/2"....sixwillwin

Had a Stewart Stage 1 cast iron pump do the same thing. It was only 6 races old. On some pumps the hubs are only pressed on and could work loose. Belts to tight, long spacer, etc. cold cause this.

Get you a 4 blade plastic fan

Flex-a-lite makea a plastic fan. we have run them for over 20 years without a single falure. They will not flatten like an aluminum or fly apart like one. Lefthander even sells them for under $20 and they come in 14,15,16 and 17 inch sizes.

Tack weld the flange to the shaft on the water pump, and don't run a long spacer.
