ok... I need a motor for my bomber... I found this one on ebay.

I can get the engine for $20 plus cost of gas for a three hour round trip.

here is the description:
HELLO I HAVE A 350 CHEVY SBC ENGINE, THE ENGINE IS FOR PARTS ONLY,, IT WAS KNOCKING WHEN I PULLED IT OUT OF MY TRUCK,, IT SLIPPED A MAIN BEARING, AND SIEZED UP I TOOK THE OIL PAN OFF AND FOUND IT HAD TWISTED UP 1 AND 2 ROD ARMS ALL UP ,, SO I'M SELLING IT AS PARTS IT HAS GOOD HEADS,, AND IT MAY BE REBUILDABLE,, I DON'T KNOW,,I PUT THE PAN BACK ON FOR THE PICS.. I WILL NOT COME WITH INTAKE OR VALVE COVERS I'M KEEPING THEM,, NO RESERVE WINNER TO PICK IT UP

Anybody think this is a good deal: $50 total... cost of motor plus gas to get it.

Nope.... If it siezed up, twisted the rods, etc. Then it's probably needs too much work to get running good enough for a bomber... Probably will need crank turned (+bearings), 2 new rods, pistons, and a bore job which means rings... plus gaskets and possibly head work if the pistons hit the valves... you'll probably have $700-800 tied up into it getting it back running - you're better off buying a tired but running 350 for $125 or so and then re-ringing it with any of the budget kits from MWMS, JR, etc. for about $89.

Santo, where you located, I have a buddy thats got a 350, with a 4x4 cam in it running for $200 bucks, nothing wrong with motor he took it out b/c it was leaking oil from the pan so he decided to buy a brand new motor. Must be nice to have money to waste.

Yeah, unless you have a buddy at the junk yard..look to spend some bucks on a 350 engine. It used to be they were a dime a dozen , the 454 and 400 engines were the big buck ones...now the good 350 are tough to find, one yard had no 350s at all, he kept trying to sell me 305 engines(no, i didn't buy..lol). You might find one on ebay, i wouldn't drive very far for one though. I did get a good deal on a Olds 455 one time..the guy at the yard had a 69-70 olds sitting over the hill, he thought it had a olds 350 in it , and wanted $100 for it. I ran the numbers , and it was a High compression 455...changed oil, plugs and what not...and it started right up, ran great. Look around the country side for farmers who have the old pick-ups .."sitting in the weeds"...or look for some of those farm auctions, where they have to pretty much clean up the farm property. You will maybe see trucks with 350s or 400s.......

Santo, im 7 miles out of new orleans. This is a steal at $200 bucks. The guy lives right across the street from me. I will pm you w/ my number if your interested. Motor is complete intake to oil pan, I would feel safe running the motor as is, maybe a fresh set of valve springs.

Ask the junkyards for "rebuildable cores" - if you can get something that's a smoker the junkyard can't sell as a "good" engine they usually go a lot cheaper... Re-ring it with a bargain kit and you'll have a good reliable bomber engine...
