I took some shavings from a couple of eagle and scat cranks to the lab a few days ago. These cranks were sold as 4340. The lab reported today that both of these cranks were made from 4140 materials. If your paying more than a couple hundred bucks for these cranks you may want to make sure you’re getting what you pay for or you will be getting what you pay for.

slater i would assume that the rods would be the same material, nickel is expensive and that is what is missing from these cranks. Also 4140 is not bad material, it's pretty tough, but if they advertise 4340 i would expect 4340.

dirt these were brand new cranks that were brought in by the customers.

A question for Bill or anyone else building a large number of engines.
Could you get a MTR for the cranks and/or rods from cola, crower, callies, lunati,...?

One of our guys was at a shop and he went thru testing all their rods. He found some bad rods from lun...

Just what I've been preaching all along...... Chinese junk with inferior material, inferior heat treating, inferior quality, inferior workmanship, all equals a CHEAP product in the true sense of the word!

DEEDDUDE,

I use Bryant, Callies, and Crower crank's. I'll be happy to send you a sample from each. Just email me and let me know what you need.

P.S. Also further proof that both crank's most likely came from the same foundry in China, since they were both the same material.
