I read in an earlier post that the 041 heads take a tapered plug. I'm using 041s this year, and I thought they took a gasket/flat plug. Can anyone say for sure?

thanks

Thanks BK19.

UNVRNO, why bother posting information like that? It's useless.

You prolly saw my post. But my 041's definitely took tapered 5/8" plugs (Autolite AR133/134) as did the 041 cores I just sold a few weeks ago. My 461 heads (and 1 spare) take the gasketed 13/16" plug. (AR72).

The 041's are from 69-70 and the 461's are from 62-67. So it's probably something to do with the casting dates. The older heads take the gasketed plugs.

Thanks,

I finally had time to get by the shop today and follow UNVRNO's wise advise. The 041 heads I have definately take a flat/gasket type plug. I'm sure the tapered seat plugs would work, but it makes more sense to me to use the correct plug.

They may have made different casting that took the tapered plug as well.

in 1971 they went to the tapered plugs like in the 126 casting and possibly the 441 but 041 take the 13/16 flat plug

I guess my 2 sets were freaks then. 'cause I had to buy gasketed plugs from my 461's. we had 4 sets of tapered plugs for the 041's that wouldn't work. Or at least not work correctly.

Maybe '69 casting 041's took 1 plug and '70 castings took the other? It's pretty hard to mistake one type plug seat for the other? I believe the 041 was only made in 69 & 70 so the tapered plug must have been phased in on some castings before that.

tapered plugs in my o41s hit the pistons.
they will work if you torque the **** outta them so they dont fall out.if the big plug fits into the head use it.
