Back when I fist got in to race I ran a pontiac 400 I crank 6400 all year not prob... the key to keep a pontiac together is make sure had a good rod clearance..Then motor I had was a 69 ram air 3..I think it was around .010 maybe a little more..

Had heat problems. What size t-stat washer is best? also had low oil pressure when hot.

On your heat problems have you checked to make sure that the tin plate behind the water pump is still there. You have to pull the water pump from the front cover and there should be a tin plate with two rubber orings, if this plate is missing it will always run hot. On my pontiacs I've always just pulled the guts out of a stock thermostat and never had a problem. My experience has shown that pontiacs usually have low oil pressure at an idle when hot, but the pressure should come up with rpms.
