in a pure stock class not sure a big block was available that year if not think the tech guys will catch it ? was the 403 olds a big or small ???

It's considered a "medium" block by Pontiac. It came out in alot of rides, mostly '79-'81 TA's. Yes, it's an Oldsmobile engine, but corporate GM used it in a few other makes, too.

403 is considered a small block. The stroke is the same as a 350 olds. The cranks, rods, bearings, cams and etc. all interchange with the small block olds'. Don't rev it over 5000 the bottom won't live without major help.

I ran one for 2 years and currently building one to replace my sbo 350
