have an old 403 olds engine shes starting to make some tappin noises on rt side have a back up ready but what advice can ya give me to help make it last a bit longer such as thick oil or lucas additives or what I can wrench on em but I`m no engine tech so help me if can or steer/shove me in the correct path

Have you re-adjusted the valves? A loose rocker can make a tapping sound.

If anything else down in the engine is making noise, you might as well put the back up motor in right now. If a rod is making noise, it will break as soon as you race it.

You could put thicker oil or saw dust in it if you really want, but all that will do is make it so you can't hear the knock. JMO.

A common problem on olds engines of this vintage:: The rocker arm retainers are aluminum,the bottom side wears away and they will rattle like crazy! It's an easy fix if thats all that's wrong.

I agree with Fuzzy1,you probably need new rockerarms and stands.Seen this a bunch.

I 3rd the rocker arm issue. Olds motors are super common for that. I think you can even buy new ones for a couple $$$ each.

Much better option than having one break and take more pieces with it as it travels through the engine.
