Hey Zero when we drag raced we always got the longest collector we could then you run the car at speed (RPM) and see where the paint burned off at (you can also do it with a marker) that is the flame inversion line. You can cut it about 1-2 inches farther back and put the Y between the collectors.
We tried it on a mini and put a small reducded pipe in then went to full diameter and it ran faster. It also worked on our late model and modified using 180 degree headers.
