I have a 1986 5.0 H O out of a wrecked Mustang GT with about 35,000 miles. This motor has a roller cam. What problems will I have in putting this motor in a 1990 Ford pickup with 302? Both motors are speed density and I will change the intake to the truck intake. Will the roller cam mess up the computer? What is the difference between 5.0 and 5.0 HO? Thanks RacerRita

you will need to use the Mustang distributor, or change the gear. this is because the roller cam motor uses a steel, instead of a cast iron gear. the cast iron gear is not compatable with the roller cam.

Is the 1990 302 truck a roller motor? Are all the TFI 302 distrubutors the same? Is the cam mild enough or maybe the same? What is the difference between a 5.0 and a 5.0HO? THANKS RacerRita

The HO motors use the 351W firing order. You MIGHT be able to change the order and have it work. When I worked in the shop, we did a 302 for a '91 F150. The cam was misboxed and was really a 302 HO cam and we stuffed it in a 'normal' 302 for this truck. It ran like **** no matter what they did. They tried both firing orders and nothing helped. We wound up redoing the motor with another cam. The Sealed Power rep got an earfull when he came around.

if those motors are in fact a different firing order they will not interchange, without also changing the injector pulses, as the PCM pulses the injectors in accordance to the firing order that it originally was meant to fire...ford5
