Just bought new aluminum short water pump and a set of pulleys for my 400 SBC. They don't line up !!!! Are there different pulleys for the 400?
Do they make a 153 tooth flex plate for the 400?

They make shims to line the pulleys up. I don't think they make the small flywheel for the 400.

First. There are three different water pump lenghts for the older small block chevy.
The first was the shortest and was used until the late 60's, the second was used on Corvetts in the mid 70's, and the third was the longest and has been used since 1969.
Second. We had a sponserr who was doing us a "Favor" and bought 10 aluminum water pumps, they were imports and i think all of them were different in length. We ahd to have all of the milled down to a standered length.
Third. If the pulleys were imports they mat be off and need help.
Fourth. They make a spacer for the crankshaft pulley.

Got it straightend out. 12.00 worth of crank pulley shims, almost a 1/4 in. The water pump pulley was too shallow. You'd think if you're paying good money for this stuff it would fit. I got 2 old sets that line up perfect. So if you're buying pulleys from performance body get 2 crank shims also. I looked at 2 other new cars tonight with the same pulleys and they both had 2 crank shims. Thanks guys
