How do you install your cam. I have a lower crank gear with 9 key holes and wanted to know if you normally install the cam straight up, advanced or retarded and what would be impact of advanced vs retard

generally advancing a cam adds to bottom and takes away on top end just the opposite when retatrding.be sure and check piston to valve clearance whenever you retime the cam, also some cams are ground with 4 degrees advance already in them mostly hotrod type cams suggest reading cam timing piece on camcrafts web site explains it better than i can.

remember adjusting at the crank is opposite. i use the same style of gear and it works great you can get cam alot closer to reccomended specs since you have 2 degree increments start out where the cam card tells you to.
