I'm working on a 406 and I only have .0015 clearance on the rod bearings. I'm thinking this sounds kind of tight. I checked a chiltons manual and found this to be in spec on a stock engine but should there be more clearance on a race engine.

Yes, you should have a minimum of .0022"-.0025" onn a race engine. A 1X bearing should put you right where you need to be.

I wish I'd of ask Steve this question a couple of years ago. We set up a 355 with .0015 and ..... well .... we now like about .0025. Scorched the little bearing in one outing. OUCH! Just say no to .0015 clearance.

Thats one of the nice things about this site. No matter what question you may have someone is always willing to help you out. I know it has saved me a lot of money and time compared to learning the hard way.
