a buddy of mine said he was running a qt. LESS of oil than needed, said as long as he had 10 # pres, he was fine and would make more horse power.what do you think??? i have heard of dragsters draining the oil for a run but they are only going a short distance..

He may be right as far as pressure goes. But oil also cools the engine and by running a quart low he is taking away some of the coolign capacity of the oil. Say its a 7qt pan and you run it 1 short. The amount of heat originally carried in 7 quarts of oil is now being carried in 6 qts. Or maybe 6 qts cant carry as much heat away so then the extra heat goes into the water and you start running hotter. Just something to think about.
If he has a decent oil pan that seperates the crank from the sump the extra quart wont rob HP if the pan was designed for it.

If he is running most of the 7 qt oans when you put 7 in they show 1 qt low on the dipstick, so it looks 1 qt low.

Moroso pan with the filter full and 7 qts in the pan reads 1 qt low on the stock stick. They do it so oil will not splash up on the chankshaft.
