It's possible.

What type of intake and carb combo is this? How much ignition timing are you running?

is there any chance the valve lash is to tight? are you thinking the glowing is coming from a rich mixture? may be too lean im thinkin lean if the valves arent too tight. just a thought

Ok , the "slightly modified is what I was looking for. Yes I think that your simply dumping fuel into the engine at an idle. The fuel still burning into the header is what is causing the glow. Even at 34, it would not be retarded enough to cause the glow that you have. It's quite common to see this happen. As for the engine leaning out as you get into race conditions, I could not tell you for sure. It all really depends on what's been done to the carb. You might run by what's been done to your carb by KP. He could probably offer a lot more incite on the Rochester than I could.
