DOES ANYONE HAVE A BASIC RACECAR WIRING DIAGRAM AND IF POSIBLE HOW TO WIRE UP THE ALTERNATOR TO A SWITCH AND TURN IT ON AND OFF DURING A RACE?

YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH TO DO WHEN YOUR ON THE TRACK THE LAST THING YOU WANT IS TO REMBER TO TURN ON THE ALT. WE DON'T EVEN RUN THEM ON OUR SS BUT IF YOU MUST HAVE AN ALT. THEN GET A ONE WIRE KIT FROM SUMMIT RUN THAT SINGLE WIRE TO THE STARTER CABLE (THE BIG ONE) THAT WAY THEIR WILL BE NO FORGETTING TO TURN IT ON.

I Applaud your decision to run an alt. I cannot remember the exact wiring diagram and cannot find the file on disk but I will keep looking.
I found the diagram at the book store in a book in the car section.
I do remember that you MUST run the switch between the exciter wire and the stud terminal on the back of the alt. Them run a wire from the stud terminal to the battery.
This way the switch just controls the on and off of the alt and dose not have to handle all of the amperage of the output.
I just cannot remember if the exciter wire is terminal number 1 or 2 on the plug.

a good starter/alt shop should be able to convert your stock alternator to a one wire like joe mentioned you can also buy kits or just buy a one wire alternator i know our local parts store carries them anyway i'll send you a daigram using a ford solinoid and one wire alternator to colpletely wire your car

remember seeing in a hot rod mag one time a setup using an electrical vacuum switch in the circuit wich cut the field under very low vac conditions alt didn't charge at full throttle but charged under caution, running in the pits etc.
