There's a godzillian number of products available on the market today. I'm freshening up a couple motors for the upcoming season and wonder what you guys are using for various lubes and sealants.
I use a graphite cam lube on the camshaft, and dip the lifters in motor oil prior to dropping them in the bores. I Use a clear assembly lube on all the bearings. I wash the piston bores and lube them and the rings with WD-40. The timing set gets moly lube. I always use the one piece oilpan gasket so that I have to use only a dab os silicon on the ends. The timing cover gets #2 permatex. as do the fuel pump plate and the pump itself. I'll spray coppercote on the head shims or, if I use a composite gasket, it goes on dry. The intake gasket go on dry too.But I make the end gaskets out of RTV. Water neck and pump get rtv and the dist goes on with #2.
Seems like a lot of different products to be using.....any suggestions?
And yes, I prime till every rocker oils before I fire.

Sounds good to me the only other thing I use is anerobic sealer sold as loctite 518 works good for putting similar metal together.I use 5w30 to lube the cylinders.Make sure the silicone isn't goobed on loose chunks can plug screens.

I use assembly lube on bearings, and journals usually federal moguls green stuff or similar. Cam lube on the cam lobes and lifter faces from the cam manufacturer and on the fulcrum balls if using a stock rocker. 30 wt oil on the piston bores, lifter bores, timing chain and bolt threads, unless the bolts are in water then i use a teflon paste sealer. A little black RTV on the pan gasket corners, intake ends rails, then adhesive sealer/high tack on the intake gaskets and any others so they dont move around. Then usually dump in a can of EOS with the oil before priming and firing up.
