i buy new balancers meant for the old 283's. they are light and have the nodular center. i turn them up to 7300 on a large 1/2 mile track (more like 5/8 mile)with no problems.

Those 305 balancers are junk, they will come apart and either hit the timing cover or go thru the hood.

Does anyone have any experience with the fluid type balancers? I've been looking at them but can't decide if they're worth the money or not. Thanks for any help.

dirtracer50,

If your going to invest in an aftermarket damper, buy the ATI. It's about the best damper going right now.

I have run 350 small blocks on dirt tracks for the past eight years. For the last two years, I have also run lightened fly wheels and the vibration dampener center from a 327 that was balanced. I have had constant problems with distributer drive gears, even with brass gears. After numerous trail and erros, the problem was the vibration dampener. Since I have been using a fluid dampener I have had no other problems with the distributer drive gear.

the advantage is not worth it on a cirle track motor i would get a good balancer. well worth the money, even a new stock replacement.
