looks like i'm getting a ford to run some enduro's with here for free just gotta put a cage in her was wondering whats a safe rpm to turn a bone stock 302 in a 79 t bird i'm not going to put any money into this thing other then the tubing for the cage everything will be stock so i want her to hold together beings they have like 5 of these races next year and they pay a grand to win they will be 200 laps or 3 hrs on a pretty big 1/2 mile clay track in out imca hobbies we ran a 5.83 with 83 in tires and turned around 6800 to give you an idea what to gear her at i was thinking of a 5.29 or 43 to be on the safe side but wasn't sure what a ford can stand

if your not taking it apart at all, youll float the valves around 5400. If your lucky, and it dont over heat, youll spin a bearing half way through the race. I bet #5 comes flying out the pan somehwere around lap 80 or so...LOL

the 302 is actually a good motor. You will be limited on RPM's just by valve train. They like to run hot in stock form, so keep that in mind.

One thing we do for "legal re-enforcment" is fill the front fenders with that expanding foam stuff. It actually makes the fenders ROCK HARD, and is easy, and REALLY cheep to do.

I have a ford in my yard I plan on running in an enduro also. Crown vic, with 302, and over drive trans, so it will be fun! They put 138 cars on the track the last time I ran one of those enduro's, on a 3/8 track....what a mess that was!

Had a buddy that run a 302 torino in enduros and didn't have overheating problems. Also it held together just fine.He ended up running it in the factory stocks 2/3 of the year and it was still running at the end of the season if you run a tired motor of any make it might fry itself anyway.this one had a rv cam with a 2 bbl carb. The aod trannys held up good considering they had 150'000 + miles on them when they where put in.Lets see a 700r4 last that long under normal driving.Yea I know a few do .

aint gotta worry to much about restarts in this deal they only have one lol. i do live in ia i'm from webster city right so might be something i would consider thinking of maybe putting a cage in her and sell raffle tickets and try to make a buck or two out of her haven't desided i guess it all depends on the cash flow and if i can find cheap parts. so will this thing have a 8.8 or a 9 in i have only seen the car once and know nothing about this vintage t birds?

a c-6 will take anything a small block can throw at it, but it's a horsepower thief. a c-4 should be up to the task of any stock small block. stay away from FMX's and AOD's.

thanks guys kinda wish i wouldn't have crushed our old truck now but at the time i had no use for a ford kinda stinks because we had less them 1000 miles on our truck motor when we junked it. what all did the c-6 come in?

okI dont really now much about the ford world but I have a 91 mustang gt with aod And the shifter only reads over drive,k drive and L2 and has now Low 1 but I know on the stang I take off with shifter in L2 position It actually starts in first but will shift it self out upon acceleration and stay in second the key to this and it may sound scary but this is how all the stang drivers do it is when it gets to about 5000 where the trans would go to second shift it to drive and then snatch it back L2, this allows it to stay in first until you shift it again dont know how or why or if it would work on the track but that how we drag race the stangs to hold first gear

i plan on running it in 1;1 so i realy have no need to keep it in low or second. another thing hobby62 hit on was the distributer can i get one off an older motor that doesn't have that comp **** on it or do all fords have the box you have to wire up. i know we had it wired up on our t bird we had a while back but we never realy did anything to that car we got it turn key and basicly just changed alot of radiators lol

if you use the blue or black grommeted module, you shouldn't have a problem with rpm's. i've used them to turn well over 7000 rpms. actually the stock duraspark ignition system is pretty good. i really can't tell any difference with an MSD.

17j, you'd be better off with a c-4. like an AOD, a c-6 has some heavy internals that rob power. if you still want to run a c-6, look for them in 80's pick-ups and vans with 300 I-6's, 302's and 351w's.

i just don';t think that will cut it eldora is a huge trackand gets super slick and those gm guys that are turn'n around 6000 plus will eat this heavy bird for lucnh turning less then 5 g i would probably get laped withing the first 15-20 laps and it's alway nice to be able to work traffic with the higher rpm's don't think this boat and 302 will have the nutz to work traffic like a monte with a 350 would without turning some higher r's
