If it was me i'd leave the stock valve size and get some good one peice valves,do a good valve job and run them,the $100-$150 you would spend on the bigger valves would be fine if you were going to run them from now on, i'd use that towards the new darts.

If they are in good shape , list them on Ebay , sell them for $400-$450 (which I've done) , put that money and the money you were going to spend to fix them toward a set of Dart heads . Just a thought .........

get a set of Manley valves from Summit (2.02 & 1.6 PN 10765 & 10766) they'll be $125 for all 16. Have a 3 angle valve job done with a 4th cut using a 75 degree cutter to open the throat to the size of the bigger valves. K-motion K700 springs should handle a .500-.550 lift. Having screw in studs and guideplates is a good idea too. Grand total you're probably looking at around $500-$600 no matter what you do. If you're buying new valves, not getting 2.02/1.6's is a waste. You'll need a valve job anyway, and the extra $50-$100 to have them cut for the bigger valves is WELL worth the money. If you can only spend money in one place, you'll make WAY more power per $$$ invested in headwork compared to anything else.

Valves $125
Springs $45
Studs $30
Guideplates $20

Parts = $220

Valvejob $175 (bigger valves)
Clean/crack check $75
Mill decks $50
Studs $75

Labor = $375

Total $595

If you cut out some things, like no studs, it will be cheaper, but when a studs pulls out and breaks a rocker/pushrod it'll cost you 3 times as much. My favorite saying when I work in the engine shop, "Never time or money to do it right, but always time and money to do it again".
