Have a 400 sbc 30over One cylinder is scratched wonder what your thoughts was on putting a sleeve in engine. thanks bob

just make sure your machinist knows what he's doing. he needs to leave a small "step" in the bottom of the bore so the sleeve is bottomed out against it. this way when the head is torqued on the sleeve can't move up or down.

If the 400 block is already bored 30 over, I would be a little hesitant to sleeve it. The material between the cylinders in a 400 is already pretty minimal. When you overbore the block for the sleeve it really thins everything out. Then after pressing the sleeve in, you take more material off the sleeve to go 30 over. This leaves you with a very thin sleeve. We tried this before with a cracked cylinder and it lasted about 4 races before it cracked again. You may have better luck since it's just scratched and not cracked.
