Anybody have knowledge on the 400 block w/ 327 crank combo. We are thinking of building one for next year. I know a few modifieds are running them in our area. But, I am not sure if it will work in a 3000 lb street stock. I have talked to one competitor who ran one a few years ago. He liked it but it was built out of all stock chevy parts. We are planning on using a custom piston, crank and 6.25 rod set. I like it becuase the rod ratio comes out to 1.92. And either world products or dart iron eagle heads. ??????

it is one sweet high winding combination if it's built with the right parts. especially effective on dry slick racetracks. gear it low and twist it tight!

I asked about this motor combo last year on another board. And nobody on there thought it would work. We run 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile dirt tracks. But, the people that I personaly know that are running them have won quite a bit this year. I have been planning on building this motor for a while now. And with all good parts and a good head/intake combo I think this will give us the extra hp I need. My car is most likely the best handling car. But, with the motor I curently have, I cannot make a mistake. The guys that are winning are running some very good motors. I have beat them but I have to run almost a perfect race, and have a little bit of luck, too.

in the famous words of smokey yunick, "use the longest rod that will fit in it and go racing".

We are using a 6.25" rod in our motor.

Keith Black makes a flattop piston for this motor.

you can use a

6.25 rod

stock stroke 3.25 327 crank

and 400 pistons made for 6 inch rods.

small journal rods are spendy in length.

as for the small journal crank and spacers, I think you can get brgs that are made for it. the spacers are really just brgs, that have the sides cut of so many people dont like them.

I dont know where to get the brgs.

Jr motorsports in galesburgh ill sells winston cup rods that are small journal carillo for 400 a set, that are also in the 6.25 length sometimes, they are pretty heavy though. but new thats a 1500 rods new easy.

Heres their email for used parts, I cant find the site right now.

307 chevys motors used the same crank as the large journal 327.
