I would leave the heads as they are and try a different cam.Get one that has less bottom end with a little more mid to top end.You might also back off the rear gear just a little.

I'm not sure what type headers you run but I have found that increasing the size of your header primary tubes will take away bottom end but give more do the shoot. Also with a motor as the 383 if you increase the intake spacer height ( 1" to 2") the motor will come in a bit later.

If you have the intake and carb to take advantage of it, it would be worth putting 2.02's in. Although, you have to make sure a bowl hog is used to cut the port out too. Otherwise it won't flow any more than the 1.94's did.

And the cam would be the best way to tune the powerband. You could try retarding your cam 4 - 8 degrees to soften it up off the turn and make it pull harder at the end of the straight. Or, if you get a new one, go about 5-6 degrees bigger on the intake lobe to kill some bottomend/midrange. Or, shorten the overlap down to 106 (if your using 108-114 now). That will make for a shorter, peakier powerband too.
