Was wondering if any one else has ever broke the wieghts off in the dist. GM HEI the heavy part of both wieghts snapped right off. The springs and everything where still ok. The curve kit was a Mr gasket or moroso. Is 7000 rpm to much for wieghts like this or what??

I had the weights on the moroso break once. it's now on a bi weekly maintenance and yearly replacement cycle.

That is a good example of why you should lock them up. Then you never have to worry about them and you can concentrate on other things instead.

Locking it out on alky is fine. If he is running a 3ooolb stocker on gas on a 1/4 mile track, I'd perfer an advance. Just use a better quality dist.

there is another option......lock it out in the distributor and run the MSD timing control unit. it will retard your timing 20 degrees at startup and add timing as the engine rpm increases. you can also get an adjustable timing control to control the timing curve.
