ok on our local forum someone recently posted a statement that 193 Gen 1 Chevy heads are the best sbc heads ever made for stock HP is this true??? We can't run camel humps and i don't like 882s are these heads really the best i can find if so i have a pair with less than 100 miles on them. one question what intake do you use? We have to run a two barrel rochester and i know the intake won't match up to the head cuz the heads i have are off a fuel injected pickup. do i need to bolt these bad boys on or is somebody throwing curveballs.

The best choice for a stock castiron head if you can run it is the L31 vortec head that came factory from 1996 to 1998 on chevy trucks and until 2001 on 350 equipped tahoes and suburbans. This may be the head you are refering to although the only casting numbers on the three sets in my shop are either 10239906 or 12558062. These castings have around 15cc more intake runner volume and are far better than the old doublehump castings. You can drill and tap these heads to run a regular intake, but the intake would also need some grinding to match the raised runners of the head. You can order a stock appearing castiron intake that will bolt to these heads from Jim Pace.
