Author Topic:   Oil in Combustion chamber??
posted September 02, 2003 06:59 PM
I am getting oil on the threads of the spark plugs, and visibly on piston. Motor is still running strong. Seems to load up or foul the plugs on caution laps though, and kills the restart. Cyl pressure is good. I think it may be from the valve stem seals. Heads where new this season WP Sr torquer, Iron guides, The heads where put together with stock type umbrella seals. Instead of ring and band type seals. Does this sound right? or should I look else where like intake gaskets or something.

Thanks alot Josh K

i've had that happen last year could never tell if i was rich or lean from the plugs because they where alway black from oil the way i found out the problem was took the exaust manifold off and you could see that the exaust valves were wet with oil so i put 2 and 2 together and came up with that

Umbrella seals will harden and crack from heat long before a postive type seal will. Or, maybe a retainer has smashed a few seals? I'd check a couple seals before tearing it all apart. Just pump air into the cylinder and you can pull the springs off without much trouble.
