If at idle I'd guess fuel is puddeling causing the lower temps. I once had fuel dripping out a set of grassburner headers and thought it water until i tasted it. just too rich at idle.

i'd say you might have an ignition problem, maybe a plug wire shorting or something.........hamer, you TASTED a stange liquid that came out of a racecar!? that could be one of those "you might be a redneck" moments.......

I would check the spark plug color and go from there. It is hard to say what exactly the problem is. Could be any number of things. Such as bad spark plug wire, poor spark plug connector, distributor cap, fuel mixture problem is unlikely because most likely it would effect all cylinders not just one unless you have modified the intake, compression issue of some sort, etc...

If this is a smallblock Chevy,you need to plug the waterpump by-pass.This will cause the problem you have.
